County Wicklow is heaven for hillwalkers. Wicklow Mountains National Park covering much of upland Wicklow, contains an area of approximately 20,000 hectares (49,421 acres). This includes large areas of mountain blanket bogs, including the Lugnaquilla and Liffey Head Bog complexes and Glendalough Wood Nature Reserve. The National Park provides protection for the landscape and the wildlife, from rare orchids to the wild and beautiful Peregrine Falcon.
Wicklow Way

The lodge is right in the center of the very best hillwalking range in Wickow and within walking distance (about 10km) of Lugnaquilla, the highest mountain in the range.

The Wicklow Way is a 132km/82mile marked walk through County Wicklow. Variety is the great characteristic of this route, which starts in Dublin suburbs, climbs into the foothills of the Wicklow mountains, and switches from glen to glen through dramatic mountains to Aughavannagh. Views of Luggala, Glendalough, and wild Glenmalure eventually give way to lower ground, with sheltered snug farms and tillage land. The stonewalled stronghold of Rathgall, said to be a residence of the Kings of Leinster, and the Mill of Purgatory - a cupboard in Aghowle Church - are amongst the many places of historical interest.
